Some of you know that much of my work over the past few years has been focused on MLS Consolidations. More specifically, it’s been about creating new, bigger and better regional MLSs. Together with the courageous leaders from 45 MLSs, we successfully created 8 new regional MLSs and nobody lost their identity or their job. Today, we have 752 MLSs – not 900 like we used to talk about. For all the right reasons, the change is taking place, as a result of bold action taken by those who want a better life for themselves and their members. They are the leaders of today and tomorrow and I want to start sharing with you what we have learned along the journey so far.

And it doesn’t have to be painful. One lesson we have learned is that it is usually better to create something new, rather than to try to force a merger, where there are winners and losers. That was the old way. Using this proven approach, everyone is a winner and a better outlook on the future of MLS.

Here’s my point. Right now, I am in the middle of writing a series of articles that will focus on MLS Consolidation. In fact, I’m writing this first one somewhere over the equator on my way to Sydney, Australia. (what else am I going to do for 14 ½ hours in the air?). You should start to hear about this further through Inman, my blog, CMLS, RealTrends and other news sources. To be the first to know, I invite you to follow along as I cover this topic sharing everything I have learned about MLS Consolidation. There are many more chapters to write on this, but it’s about time we all started to focus more energy on it – 750 MLSs are unsustainable? Do you agree?

For 2016, my personal goal is to help the next 100 MLS leaders know all of the options and help pick the best one for a better life and to prepare for the future of MLS.
